Gold coins from central America are some of the rarest and sought after issues in the world. The El Salvador Gold Pesos coin is no exception, given that it was a single-year type with a very low mintage. Other low mintage types from the region feature Guatemala’s 10 Gold Quetzales with a mintage of 16,000 and Cuba’s Gold veinte pesos with a mintage of 47,000
By contrast, the El Salvador 20 pesos has a mintage of just 300 making them incredibly elusive for world Gold coin collectors, the smaller denominations had slightly higher mintages but remain incredibly difficult to source
El Salvador Gold pesos are so rare than many international coin collectors are unlikely to know they exist. When these coins are offered to the market they command a very high premium, it is customary for the El Salvador 20 pesos to trade at just over seven multiples of its intrinsic Gold value.
