The Royal Mint struck a Gold proof version of the British pound coins. The Gold pound coins featured the main designs on circulated round pound coins but to a Gold proof standard. Each round pound Gold coin is 19.61g of 22 carat Gold
The Gold round pound coins was replaced by a lighter bi-metal new 12-sided pound coin which features a yellow Gold centre with a 22 carat rose Gold outer band. This 'Nations of the Crown' was issued in 2017 with a limited mintage of 2,017. Despite the attractive design, these coins are less valuable than the Gold round pounds due to being 1.91g lighter
