An extremely rare and highly contested 1796 capped bust quarter dollar which is also known as the turban head eagle. This is the first type which has no stars in the field of the obverse and is one of the most important US historic Gold coins. This type has a tiny mintage of just 963 yet estimated survivors are as little as 30-40 coins in all conditions yet other estimates are that only 15-20 has survived the test of time
The quarter eagle denomination was introduced in 1796 with coins being minted in two major design types which was with and without stars on the obverse. The figure on the coin is Miss Liberty who is wearing a cloth cap or ‘turban’
