Friedrich III Gold 20 Marks are another single year type which was struck in 1888 only. Friedrich III was a significant figure in Prussia, he married Victoria, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom and together had eight children, one of which being Wilhelm II. He inhertied the throne in 1888 following the death of his father Wilhelm I but due to ill health, Friedrich III’s reign lasted only 99 days. He tragically died in the same year (1888)
The Friedrich III Gold 20 Marks are a modest premium type as they were struck in a relatively high mintage of 5,363,901 coins. Proof versions are also known but the official mintage of this small pool of coins is not recorded
