Friedrich August III was the last King of Saxony, reigning from 1904 until the abdication of the German monarchies in 1918. Freidrich August III was the eldest son of King Georg of Saxony and Queen Maria Anna of Portugal. The end of World War I in 1918 brought significant political changes within Germany which led to the abdication of the German monarchies. Friedrich August III was forced to abdicate in November 1918. His abdication marked the end of the Kingdom of Saxony as a monarchy
