The Georg of Saxony Gold 20 Marks is a singular issue and is the only 20 Gold Mark from Georg’s reign. Only 250,000 coins are known with some proof finished coins have surfaced at large US coin auctions although the proof mintage is unknown. Georg of Saxony featured on the 1903 20 Marks coin as after becoming King of Saxony on June 19, 1902, after the death of his elder brother King Albert. His reign was relatively short as he died two years later in October 1904.
After Georg’s death, his son Friedrich August III succeeded him as King of Saxony and would be the final King of Saxony as Germany’s defeat in World War I forced him to stepdown from the throne. The Georg of Saxony Gold 20 Marks is a high-premium piece that is popular for German type collectors
