The rare Afghanistani 5 Amani which is another one-year type struck by the Kabul Mint in 1920. This piece which has an unknown mintage weighs 23g and is 90% fine Gold. The coins were actually produced for circulation during the reign of King Amanullah Khan 1919-1929 in a bid to modernise Afghanistan. However, the Gold Amanis were replaced by banknotes and base metal coins.
The 5 Amani has two different varieties, one with a star above the tughra and a heart-like symbol on the reverse. The other type is rarer and does not show a star and displays the denomination ‘5’ in arabic above the mosque on the reverse.
