Like the 100 Markkaa, this is rare one-year type (1926) which has a limited mintage of just 50,000 known. The 200 Markkaa is a modest coin at 8.421g. Just like the 20 Markkaa, the coin is struck with a .900 fine Gold alloy.
Finland is not famous for its Gold coin designs yet the Markkaa offers a different design for British investors. The coin’s design is a classic one and shows some similarities with Russian Rubles from the same era
The 200 Markkaa was struck at Suomen Rahapaja in Helsinki – coins are typically seen in mint state condition which indicates that these were never intended for circulation
The 100 and 200 Markkaa coins were never really circulated. It is believed that many of the coins have remained stored within Finland’s bank vaults for nearly a century, meaning when these elusive coins are seen in the market, they are usually in excellent condition
