The $5 Indian Head Eagle coin first came to market in 1908 and was minted until 1929. The Gold $5 half Eagle is a unique coin among its peers as the design is recessed in the coin’s surface, with the field being the highest part of the coin. This being unusual as the field is usually the lowest part of the coin’s design. The coin weighs 8.36g of .900 Gold
The Gold Indian $5 Eagles was done at the US Mint in Philadelphia between 1908 and 1915 and again in 1929. The Denver Mint struck Indian half Eagles between 1909 and 1911 and again in 1914. San Francisco half eagles were made from 1908 through 1916. At New Orleans the Indian quarter eagle was only struck in 1909 whch was the final year of operation of that minting facility
