A rare numismatic piece from the Gold Colombian peso range. This Diez peso is a two-year type which was struck in 1857 and 1858 by the Bogota and Popayan Mints in Colombia. Unlike the more recently struck Colombian pesos, this type features a beautifully designed Liberty on the obverse
This type, when seen, is typically circulated with high-point wear and contact marks. Many mint state examples exist but are highly contested and so command a high premium. This style of Colombian peso coins are .900 fine Gold which was common in the region at the time. The Diez peso has a total mass of 16.129g
This piece was struck at the Bogota Mint in Colombia in 1957. The grade of the coin is MS63, nearing the pinnacle of the condition census for the variety, with only one example certified higher by NGC in MS-64.
