The 2025 Sovereign celebrates two centuries of rich history and artistry, paying homage to Jean Baptiste Merlen’s iconic Royal Arms design, which first graced the Sovereign 200 years ago. Using cutting-edge technology, The Royal Mint has faithfully remastered Merlen’s design, presenting it on the reverse of the coin. The obverse features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Martin Jennings, marking the first time these two designs appear together on the Sovereign.
This edition holds special significance as the final Sovereign to be struck in rose gold by The Royal Mint, making it a true collector’s treasure especially with only 5,000 proof coins being released although the total mintage which accounts for full proof 2025 sovereigns in sets could be as high as 7,035.
