Monnaie de Luxe translates to “luxuary currency” which is an appropriate label for the coin because whilst the Monnaie de Luxe 25 Kurush has a face value and could theoretically be used as currency, their high value and the context in which they were typically issued meant that they were rarely, if ever, used in everyday transactions. The coins functioned more as diplomatic gifts or gifts at ceremonies, for this reason they would hold centimental value for the owner and thus were unlikely to be spent into circulation
