First struck in 1942, the Gold Turkish 50 Kurush Monnaie de Luxe coin which translates as “luxuary currency”. The coins are different to other Gold Turkish Kurush insofar that the coins were not standard circulation tender. The coins have a face value and could have been spent but since they were typically gifted on special occasions and therefore were worth more being preserved than simply spent into circulation
Gold 50 Kurush Monnaie de Luxe coins are 22 carat, making them 91.67% Gold and 8.33% copper. Coins weight 3.51g but due to their beauty, were oftentimes mounted and worn by the owner as an ostentatious display. This type was struck twice, the first period being 1942-1978 and then a second wave of coins came to market between 2000-2013 inclusive
