The most popular Gold Turkish Kurush coin which was struck as early as 1843 under Abdulmejid I’s reign, prior to this the Kurush was a large Silver coin that was used in the early 1700s. Subsequent sultans in Turkey continued the Gold Kurush coins of which the 100 Kurush was the largest. The 100 Kurush consistently featured the tughra on the obverse, along with inscriptions and decorative elements on the reverse
The Gold Kurush coins were eventually replaced when the Ottoman Empire disolved after World War I and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, the practice of minting of Gold 100 Kurush coins ceased. The new Turkish Republic introduced its currency system which saw the old Ottoman coins steadily removed from circulation
