The face value on the 1oz Gold Panda coin was 100 yuan until the year 2000 where the denomination increased to 500 yuan. In 1995 the Gold Panda coins had frosting applied for the first time to both the obverse and reverse sides

While no name is displayed on the coins, they are internationally referred to as “Pandas”, as a giant panda, a national symbol of China. The reverse features the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
