The original Silver Libertad design shares similarities with the Mexican Gold 50 peso whilst the reverse resembles the same as the Eagle used on the Gold veinte peso. The two mountains in the background tell the famous legend of two star-crossed lovers, princess Iztaccíhuatl and warrior Popocatépetl who were transformed into volcanoes by the Aztec gods. The Eagle devouring a snake is the Mexican coat of arms and is proudly displayed on the Mexican national flag. Silver Libertad coins trade at a premium to other bullion coins due to limited annual mintages and general high demand in the market
